If You Write It, They Will Come
=============================

Article writing
can be a valuable tool for your marketing efforts. Not only do articles create valuable content
but they can bring your site visitors as well. When you write an article don't just post
it to your own site. Make
it available to other sites.
Cheap, good content is hard to come by and webmasters would
be foolish not to pick up well-written, intelligent articles.
Really; article writing becomes a win-win situation for both
your site and others.
There are some
things to remember when writing an article to be used on another
site though. If you
want both a good chance of that article being picked up as well
as article readers turning into visitors, read the following rules:
First
rule: It's an article, not a sales pitch.
When writing
an article that may be used on another site, make sure that you're
not making the article into a sales pitch.
This does two things for you.
One, it has a
much higher chance of being picked up by a site or newsletter. Site owners want to add content to their
site, not more advertising.
Two, your article
has a much better chance of being read if the site visitor doesn't
feel like they are reading something written by a vacuum salesman.
(no offense to vacuum salesmen.)
Second
Rule: Include Your Info
Make sure the
article finishes with a small blurb about yourself (the writer)
and your company/web-site.
If it is up to the site owner to publish your information,
they likely will leave it out. By making your information part of the
article, it makes it easier for them to include.
Third
Rule: Limit The Size
Don't make your
article too big, if the size requires more then one web page, it's
unlikely that many sites will pick up your article.
On the other hand if the article is lacking in content, the
same applies.
Fourth
Rule: Get It Out
Even though it
is more of a commandment then a rule, you need to get your article
out to other sites. How
can you do this? There are many automated tools that allow
you to submit your article to other sites. The preferable method is to submit your
article manually. Even
though this method may take longer, by doing this you will create
a relationship with other webmasters/newsletter publishers. Your
acceptance levels will be much higher.
Besides submission, make your article available to other
sites by including a note when you publish your own article that
gives other sites the permission to use your article.
Common sense
also comes into play. If
your article doesn't read well, or is filled with either grammatical
or spelling errors, your hard work is not going to pay off. Keep your submission on topic. Don't submit your fly fishing article
to a quilting web-site. Think
about hosting outside articles as well, make your site open to submissions,
it is one of the easiest ways to create content that there is. No
matter what side you're on, be aware that article writing is a valuable
tool for marketing. Utilize it as much as you can!
